Anschlag in Paris - Israel kondoliert

Ministerpräsident Benjamin Netanyahu hat sich am Mittwoch zu dem Terroranschlag auf die Redaktion der Satirezeitschrift Charlie Hebdo geäußert. Er sagte:

„Das Volk Israel kondoliert dem französischen Volk angesichts der brutalen Akte der Barbarei heute im Herzen von Paris. Die Anschläge des radikalen Islam kennen keine Grenzen – es sind internationale Angriffe, und die Antwort darauf muss international erfolgen. Die Terroristen wollen unsere Freiheiten und unsere Zivilisation zerstören. Und daher müssen alle freien Länder und alle zivilisierten Gesellschaften sich zusammenschließen, um diese Geißel zu bekämpfen. Und wenn wir zusammenstehen, wenn wir nicht gespalten sind, dann können wir diese Tyrannei besiegen, die uns aller unserer Freiheiten berauben möchte.

Ich möchte einmal mehr dem Mitgefühl Ausdruck verleihen, dass alle Bürgers Israels für das französische Volk und für die trauernden Familien empfinden. Wir selbst erleben solche Anschläge immer wieder, wir kennen den Schmerz, doch wir kennen auch die Entschlossenheit, mit der freie Gesellschaften den Terror besiegen können – wie schrecklich und bedrohlich er auch sein möge.“

Staatspräsident Reuven Rivlin schrieb in einem Kondolenzbrief an den französischen Präsidenten François Hollande:

„Schockiert und betroffen habe ich von dem brutalen Terroranschlag auf die Redaktion des Magazins Charlie Hebdo in Paris erfahren. Im Namen des israelischen Volkes möchte ich dem französischen Volk mein tiefes Beileid aussprechen.

Wir alle in der freien Welt sind mit der Bedrohung des Terrorismus konfrontiert und müssen vereint im Kampf gegen jene stehen, die danach trachten, die Meinungsfreiheit zu unterdrücken und damit fortfahren, das Leben so vieler zu zerstören. Leider sind auch mir der Schrecken und die Trauer nicht fremd, die auf solche tödlichen Angriffe folgen.

Wir stehen entschieden an der Seite Frankreichs in seiner Entschlossenheit, die Meinungs- und Pressefreiheit zu verteidigen, die zu denen wichtigsten Säulen jeder Demokratie zählen.

Bitte übermitteln Sie den betroffenen Familien mein tiefstes Mitgefühl und die besten Wünsche für eine schnelle Genesung der Verwundeten.“

Außenminister Avigdor Lieberman erklärte:

„Ich spreche dem französischen Volk und der französischen Regierung mein Beileid aus. Israel teilt den Schmerz Frankreichs. Es darf dem Terrorismus und den Terroristen nicht gestattet werden, die freie Welt zu terrorisieren, und der Westen muss fest und vereint dieser Bedrohung entgegenstehen.“

TERROR IN PARIS: ‘West must unite against Islamist terror and defend freedom of expression’, says WJC

World Jewish Congress (WJC) President Ronald S. Lauder reacted with shock to the massacre of at least 12 people in the Paris offices of the weekly satirical magazine ‘Charlie Hebdo’ on Wednesday, which was reportedly carried out by Islamist terrorists identifying themselves as al-Qaeda members. Lauder condemned the attack as “a heinous act of terror aimed at the free press in France and beyond.” He urged the West to stand united against this menace and act strongly against all those who spread hatred and intolerance in our societies.

In 2011, Charlie Hebdo published controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed and its offices were firebombed and have since been under police surveillance.

“Three years after the massacre at a Jewish school in Toulouse, and eight months after the deadly attack at the Jewish Museum in Brussels, were are faced with yet another brutal Islamist terror attack in Western Europe. This time, the target was the media, but it affects all of us. We must not be intimidated by their campaign and must uphold and defend our Western values, including that of freedom of expression,” Lauder declared.

Roger Cukierman, president of the French Jewish umbrella body CRIF and a vice-president of the World Jewish Congress, also strongly condemned the terrorist attack. “Today, France is in shock. We mourn the victims of this despicable crime and send our condolences to their families.

“This attack requires a strong and determined response not just by France, but by the European Union as a whole. There are people – a small minority, but a dangerous one nonetheless - living in our midst who cannot stand openness, diversity, a pluralistic press and freedom of religious worship. Islamist terrorism is the main threat to our security and well-being today, and it must be fought vigorously everywhere because it is a poison for our societies,” Cukierman said.

ADL Expresses Horror and Outrage Following Charlie Hebdo Terror Attack

New York, NY, January 7, 2015 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today condemned the terror attack in Paris at the Charlie Hebdo newspaper office, and expressed horror and outrage at the brutal escalation in violent radical Islamist terrorism.

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:

We are outraged and horrified by this terror attack which was a dreadful reminder of the terror attacks at the Jewish school in Toulouse and the Jewish museum in Brussels. French authorities rightly declared this horrific attack to be against the French Republic, just as they have when radical Islamists have attacked French Jews and Jewish institutions.

Radical Islamist terrorists targeted a French symbol of press freedom.  While we have criticized Charlie Hebdo’s insulting caricatures in the past, terrorism is never justified and freedom of the press must be protected.  Newspapers must be free to publish controversial content, not without criticism, but without intimidation or violence.

The swift and unconditional condemnations by mainstream French Muslim leaders should be highlighted and should focus anger and blame where they belong – on the terrorists and their sympathizers, who oppose freedom of speech, freedom of press, and freedom of religion.

We extend condolences to the families of the victims and to the French people.

AJC Appalled by Deadly Terror Attack on French Newspaper

 

January 7, 2015 -- Paris -- AJC is appalled by the terrorist attack on the office of a French newspaper. At least 12 are dead, and several of the wounded are in critical condition, after hooded gunmen shouting “Allahu Akbar” and “Avenge the prophet,” stormed the office of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in the center of the French capital.

“Islamic terrorism has struck once again in the heart of our beloved France,” said Simone Rodan-Benzaquen, director of AJC Paris. “Their target was both those who worked at the magazine and the laudable values of an open, democratic society they embodied. There can be no compromise with such murderers and their heinous world view.”

The terror alert in France was raised after the attack to its highest level. French President Hollande, condemning the attack on Charlie Hebdo, said several other terror attacks had been thwarted in recent weeks.

Three years ago, Charlie Hebdo's offices were the subject of an arson attack in response to its publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed on its cover.

The perpetrators of today’s terror attack in Paris remain at large.
